End of life vehicles

In 2003, the UK Government transcribed the End of Life Vehicles Directive (2000/53/EC) into UK law to cover England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The End of Life Vehicle Directive applies to all passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with up to nine seats and up to a total permissible weight of 3.5 tonnes.

The directive requires vehicle manufacturers such as LDV to:

• Subject to conditions, ‘take back’ qualifying LDV vehicles at the end of their life from the last owner or keeper for free disposal
  
• Ensure that environmentally responsible disposal of the vehicle is made
  
• Establish a network of Approved Treatment Facilities (ATF’s) for return (take back) by the last owners of an end of life vehicle (ELV)
  
• Meet recycling and recovery targets of 95% in 2015 (and previously 85% in 2006)

Therefore, in line with the requirements of the EC End of Life Vehicle Directive, LDV owners are offered the opportunity to dispose of their vehicle at the end of its useful life, free of charge

Free take back is currently available for all vehicles regardless of age as from the 1st January 2007

As defined in the law, free take back will be offered provided:

• The vehicle is delivered to an LDV appointed take back facility
  
• The vehicle contains all its essential components, in particular the engine, transmission, coachwork, wheels or catalytic converter (if originally fitted)
  
• That no waste has been added to the vehicle (for example garden waste or additional tyres)

LDV Group are keen to comply with these regulations and work in conjunction with Cartakeback.com Ltd to provide a network of ATFs where last owners or keepers can take back their LDV, Leyland, LeylandDAF, DAF or Freight Rover branded vehicles for free disposal.

These ATFs are licensed with the Environment Agency and will issue you with the Certificate of Destruction (COD) that you are required to have when disposing of a vehicle. This will confirm that environmental disposal has been correctly completed.
